UCSB Researchers Say Drought, Global Warming Potentially Packing One-Two Punch

Posted on Friday, January 31, 2014 12:40am

Our water crisis has become an almost daily part of the news.

The governor declared a drought emergency, and water agencies throughout the region are calling on people to conserve.  Just this week, the City of Ventura asked its customers to cut use by 10%.

Some UC Santa Barbara researchers say we shouldn’t be surprised that we are facing a drought, noting that they occur every 20 to 30 years, and the last major one we had was in the 1980’s.

But, they say we are facing a bigger issue, which is a drought combined with climate warming.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports they say the long term consequences could potentially be much greater through this one-two punch.
