Ventura County has extended medical, dental, and health care benefits to domestic partners of county employees, and retired employees since the year 2000, but up until now the county hasn’t offered a domestic partner registry.
People wanting to register as domestic partners had to either do with the state, or through neighboring counties.
Ventura County is now moving to make the service available in the county.
County Supervisors voted 4-to-1 this week to make the domestic registry services available through the County Clerk’s office.
Supervisor Peter Foy opposed the move, expressing concern about the added costs the county is bearing by offering benefits to domestic partners.
