Posted on Monday, January 27, 2014 11:30am

An actor best known as the model in the famous “Marlboro Man” ads in the 1970’s, and 80’s has died on the Central Coast.

Eric Lawson is best known from the print ads which portrayed him as a rugged cowboy, but he appeared in a number of Tv shows over the decades, ranging from Baretta to Baywatch.

Lawson was a life-long smoker, but later regretted doing the ads, and appeared in anti-smoking commercials, and news stories.

He died at his San Luis Obispo home, as a result of respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Lawson was 72 years old.
