A man is facing felony vehicular manslaughter, DUI, and other charges following the hit and run death of a bicyclist in Ventura County.
Oxnard Police say the were called to Rose Avenue, south of Raiders Way just after 2 a.m. Sunday by reports of an accident. They found Gerald Garcia on the ground at the scene. The 43 year old Oxnard man had been riding his bike when he was struck, and fatally injured.
With the help of witnesses, officers identified a suspect vehicle, which was found a short distance away, with the bike still stuck under the car. They arrested Policarpio Diaz of Oxnard. In addition to the manslaughter, and DUI charges, the 29 year old man was booked for felony hit and run, and for two outstanding DUI warrants.
