A former State Senator from the Central Coast has dropped out of the race for governor.
At a news conference in Santa Maria, Abel Maldonado officially bowed out, saying that now was not his time.
Political analysts say Maldonado was having a tough time building political, and financial support for a run.
Maldonado has deep roots on the Central Coast, with his family in agriculture, and his political career included serving as the Mayor of Santa Maria, State Senator, and as Lieutenant Governor under Arnold Schwarzenegger
Democratic Governor Jerry Brown hasn’t announced yet whether he would seek re-election.
