Study Shows Nitrogen Pollution From Vehicles Fueling Brush Fire Danger In Region

Posted on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 6:53am

A new locally based study shows that some of the pollution we create when we drive may be fueling the brush fire danger in our region.

Researchers are looking at the impacts of nitrogen on vegetation in the Santa Monica Mountain National Recreation area.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco talks to one of the researchers, who says nitrogen is inhibiting the growth of some native plants, while helping some of weedy, non-native ones which fuel brush fires.
