A woman who admitted swindling victims of two destructive brush fires in Santa Barbara County out of millions of dollars was formally sentenced to more than 11 years behind bars.

Prosecutors say Penny Estes promised some victims of the Tea, and Jesusita fires who had lost their homes she would oversee their rebuilding projects, but took millions from them which she instead spent on everything from shopping sprees, to fancy hotels.

During a sentencing hearing yesterday, Estes was sentenced to 11 years, and eight months in prison, with more than a year’s credit for time already served.
