Some of 2013’s, and 2014’s highest tides are hitting Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties this week, and some people are trying to document them, as examples of what rising sea levels could bring to the region.
The highest tides of the week are expected at 8:42 a.m. in Santa Barbara County, and 8:59 in San Luis Obispo County.
The California King Tides Initiative is lining up volunteers to shoot pictures of the impacts of the high tides, especially in areas which can be hard hit by coastal flooding.
Researchers will use the information which is gathered to better understand what areas can be impacted by high tides.
Organizers say it will provide a graphic example of the potential long term impacts of rising sea levels attributed to climate change.
