Ventura County lost its potentially lucrative bid to become one of the national testing sites for drones.
The federal government today announced that testing will take place in six states, but that California isn’t one of them.
Alaska, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Texas, and Virginia were selected by the Federal Aviation Administration for the development of test sites.
Ventura County business, and government leaders backed the proposal for local drone testing, hoping that synergy with Naval Base Ventura County would make it an attractive option.
Testing was also proposed for the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Center, which is next to Ridgecrest in the Mojave Desert.
