Firefighters are trying to determine the cause of a brush fire which disrupted traffic on the 101 Freeway in Ventura County.
The blaze flared up next to the 101 near the Lemon Grove overcrossing in Ventura just before 5:30 a.m. Saturday. The fire created heavy smoke which drifted across the northbound lanes of the freeway, prompting the closure of two lanes for about 45 minutes.
Ventura firefighters were able to stop the spread of the small spot fire in about ten minutes, and put it out in about an hour. There was no damage, and there were no injuries.
Investigators say the fire appears to be suspicious in origin.
