Two fugitive flamingos in Southern California are still reluctantly resisting plans to move them to the Central Coast.
Inglewood’s iconic Hollywood Park horse racing track held its last races yesterday, and is closing down for good. The track agreed to send 10 flamingos living in its infield lagoon to the Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero. A team from the Los Angeles Zoo was able to catch. They caught eight of the birds, but two others figured out that they were being rounded up, and have eluded capture.
Track officials say they’ll give the birds a few days to settle down before making another attempt to catch them.
The Central Coast zoo is hoping to establish a breeding population of flamingos.
