Former Federal Prison Guard On Central Coast Gets 25 Years To Life Sentence For Killing Fellow Guard

Posted on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 2:57pm

A former federal prison guard on the Central Coast received a 25 years to life sentence today for murdering a fellow guard.

Timothy McNally was convicted of second degree murder for the March, 2011 shooting death of Gary Bent.  McNalley was a federal correctional officer at Lompoc Federal Prison, and Bent was a federal officer from Victorville who was in Lompoc for training.

Prosecutors say McNally killed Bent during a drinking, and drug binge at a Lompoc motel.  Defense attorneys argued the shooting was an accident.  A first trial ended in a hung jury, but McNally was convicted during the second trial, which ended in October.
