Rocket Launch From Santa Barbara County Still Officially A Go For Tonight

Posted on Thursday, December 5, 2013 3:40pm

It’s still officially a go at this hour for a rocket launch on the Central Coast.

An Atlas rocket is set to take off from Vandenberg Air Force Base during a launch window which opens at 11:13 p.m.

The mission includes a secret payload, which includes some small satellites.

The base launches about two payloads a year like this one from the National Reconnaissance Office.

There have been concerns that the cold weather could affect the launch plans.

While the flight details are classified, a warning issued to pilots indicates the plane will head southwest from the base.

If the weather is clear, the rocket could be visible throughout the region right after liftoff.
