A proposed affordable housing complex in Santa Barbara which some neighbors thought was too big, and didn’t fit with the surrounding neighborhood has received some key support.
The Santa Barbara City Council rejected an appeal of a city board’s approval of the People’s Self Help Housing project planned for the 500 block of North Salsipuedes Street.
The non-profit wants to build a 40 unit affordable housing apartment complex, with a 3300 square foot community center on the site.
Some opponents contend that the three story complex is too big and bulky, and also are concerned about adequate fire access.
But, the City Council decided that the already downsized project is compatible with the area.
The project still needs to get some final approvals, but the appeal denied by the City Council means the project has cleared its last major roadblock.
