Oxnard’s Police Chief Speaks Out About Gang Related Crime Wave

Posted on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 12:33am

Oxnard’s Police Chief is speaking out about a rash of gang violence in the city during the last month, with a dozen incidents, which included two attempted murders, and one killing.

Chief Jeri Williams says the last few weeks have been difficult as a community, because of the rash of violence.

There have been 12 violent gang crimes, including 10 involving guns.

Williams says 7 of the 12 crimes occurred in the Colonia neighborhood, and because many of the victims are gang members, it’s been difficult for investigators to get information to solve the crimes.

In fact, the Police Chief says some of the crimes have been inside the gang, with both the attacker and victim Colonia gang members.

In a statement issued late last night, she emphasized that the crime wave is not random, and has been targeting gang members.

Williams says the department has been working around the clock on the attacks, and has beefed up patrols in the neighborhood, as well as deploying anti-gang units.
