Firefighters Say They Stopped Advance Of 100 Acre Brush Fire In Ventura County

Posted on Thursday, November 14, 2013 4:05pm

Firefighters say they’ve now stopped the advance of a 100 acre brush fire in Ventura County, between Santa Paula and Ojai, but that it’s too soon to talk about containing it.

The fire was first reported at around 11 a.m., on the 6800 block of Wheeler Canyon Road.

They almost contained a two acre blaze in the area, but the wind kicked up, blowing it out of control.

Firefighters have had to deal with low humidity, and near record heat to battle the fire, which is burning in rugged mountainous terrain.

More than 180 firefighters, aided by air tankers and helicopters are battling the blaze.

There’s no word of any structure damage, and there are no mandatory evacuations at this time.

Portions of Wheeler Canyon Road are closed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
