Coalition Of Non-Profit Groups Seeks Increased Water Releases From Diversion Dam On Ventura County Waterway

Posted on Thursday, November 14, 2013 3:13pm

A coalition of groups is seeking increased water releases from a diversion dam on a Ventura County waterway.

Ventura Coastkeeper, the Wishtoyo Foundation, CAUSE, and the Central for Biological Diversity, say the United Water Conservation District needs to to a better job of balance water diversions from the Vern Freeman Diversion Dam.  They are asking the State Water Resources Board to intervene.

In the complaint filed with the state agency, the groups contend that the water diversion has caused a decline in the Santa Clara River’s ecosystem.  The filing says the dam is sidetracking water needed to protect aquifers.
