After a marathon hearing which lasted more than five hours, and included dozens of speakers, Santa Barbara County has upped the environmental thresholds a new oil, and gas drilling project will have to meet.
Santa Maria Energy will be able to drill its 136 planned new onshore wells, and add supporting pipelines in northern Santa Barbara County.
But, it will have to meet much stricter greenhouse gas emission guidelines than it expected.
KCLU’s Lance Orozco reports hundreds of people turned out for a more than five hour long public hearing on the controversial issue.
