A community clinic network on the South Coast received a federal grant to open a new facility in Goleta.
The federal Department of Health, and Human Services awarded $812,000 to the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics to establish, and operate a new clinic in Goleta.
The grant is intended to allow the new center to serve more than 3700 new patients a year.
The initial grant will cover 2014, and then the federal government will give the clinic $650,000 a year to run the new facility.
The Neighborhood Clinics currently operate two general clinics in Santa Barbara, and one in Isla Vista, as well as a dental clinic in Santa Barbara.
The clinics ran into financial difficulties in recent years, but have gone through a financial restructuring to improve the non-profit’s viability.
