San Luis Obispo County is moving ahead with planning for a new airport terminal
County Supervisors approved a plan to use a million dollars in federal grant money, and a half million dollars in county funding for design work.
The proposed new terminal could cost upwards of 20 million dollars.
Meanwhile, the County has also agreed to contribute more than $200,000 to help subsidize the establishment of new airline service at the airport.
The goal is to create a fund to attract new United Airlines San Luis to Denver service to the airport, insuring it won’t lose money for the first two years, after which it is expected to be self sustaining.
United already offers 20 daily weekday flights to and from San Luis, to San Francisco and Los Angeles. US Airways has six daily weekday flights to and from Phoenix.
