A Ventura County business executive who left the United States before he was indicted on fraud charges has been arrested in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Federal agents took Didier DeNier into custody when he made a stopover on his sailboat in St. Croix. He had apparently been living on the boat.
DeNier was CEO of Simi Valley based Powerline, a company which provided batteries to the military.
An indictment says the company subbed out batteries ordered by the Defense Department with lower quality ones.
Denier is scheduled to appear in court this Friday to face extradition for multiple charges, including conspiracy to defraud the government.
The 63 year old man’s wife, who was the company’s vice president of sales, already entered a guilty plea to charges stemming from the contracts, but hasn’t been sentenced yet.
