Longtime South Coast Education Leader Dies

A longtime education leader on the South Coast has died.

Mike Caston worked as a teacher, administrator, and schools superintendent for some four decades.

From 1994 to 2004, he was Superintendent of the Santa Barbara Elementary, and High School Districts.

He was also a Deputy Superintendent of Education with the Santa Barbara County Education Office.

He had been living in San Diego County in recent years.

Caston died following a long battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.

He was 65 years old.
