Longtime Santa Barbara Airport Chief To Retire

The executive who’s run Santa Barbara’s Airport for more than a quarter of a century, and oversaw the construction of its new terminal has announced her retirement.

Karen Ramsdell is going to step down at the end of the year, after 26 years as Santa Barbara Airports Director, and 37 years in total with the City of Santa Barbara.

Ramsdell’s achievements include relocating, and renovating the airport’s historic 1940′s era terminal, and construction of a new 72,000 square foot facility.  During her tenure, the airport received more than $100 million dollars in federal funding for various projects ranging from improved security, to runway enhancement.

The City of Santa Barbara has launched a search for a replacement to fill the vacancy.
