Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Injured While Trying To Arrest Man

Posted on Monday, October 28, 2013 5:26pm

A Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department suffered what’s being described as moderate injuries after a struggle with a man who was resisting arrest.

It happened just before noon today, on the 4200 block of Calle Real in Santa Barbara.  The officer was conducting a traffic stop on a car for a minor traffic violation when a male passenger got out of the vehicle.  As the sergeant was calling for backup, the man struggled with him, and the officer was injured.

The man, identified as Ricky Cooper Ramirez, then fled on foot.  He was arrested a short distance away, on the 4400 block of San Martin Way.  Department officials say the 21 year old man had several warrants out for his arrest, including domestic violence, and battery of a court officer.  He’s facing multiple charges from today’s incident, including resisting arrest.
