Work Underway On New Pipeline To Supply More Water To Southern San Luis Obispo County

Posted on Thursday, October 24, 2013 2:18pm

Work is now officially underway on a project intended to ship water from northern Santa Barbara County, to an area where groundwater is being depleted in Southern San Luis Obispo County.

The $17.5 million dollar pipeline project will move water from Santa Maria to the Nipomo groundwater basin.

The Nipomo Community Services District is going to get about 3,000 acre feet of water a year to help reduce the strain on its dwindling groundwater supplies.

The two mile long pipeline system is expected to be ready for use in the spring of 2015.
