State Assemblyman From Ventura County Named To New Criminal Justice Panel

Posted on Monday, October 21, 2013 7:46am

A state assemblyman from Ventura County has been named to a new committee looking at California’s controversial prison overcrowding reduction efforts.

Republican Assemblyman Jeff Gorrell of Camarillo will serve on the California State Assembly’s new Select Committee on Justice Reinvestment.  The committee will look at the effort known as realignment, which is keeping some lower level criminals in the counties, instead of sending them into the state’s overcrowded prison system.

Gorrell is a former prosecutor who has been critical of the realignment effort.
