Santa Barbara County Looking At New Septic System Guidelines To Meet State Requirements

Posted on Monday, October 21, 2013 8:44am

Tighter regulations are on the way for rural homes in Santa Barbara County which have home septic systems, and that will be the focus of a series of community meetings.

The State Water Resources Control Board recently adopted statewide regulations, and the county is developing a countywide management program to help meet the new standards.

The first meeting will be tomorrow night, at St. Marks in the Valley Church, in Los Olivos.  It will take place from 5-7 p.m.

The second meeting is set for Thursday night, also from 5-7, in the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors hearing room in Santa Maria.

The state regulations allow counties to develop their own set of alternative standards for septic systems, as long as they provide the same amount of protection to public health, and the environment.
