Some 80 firefighters have been busy today fighting a stubborn, and stinky mulch fire in Ventura County.
The blaze was first reported at around 7:30 this morning, on the 4400 block of Olivas Park Drive, between Ventura and Oxnard. It’s the site of a closed mushroom farm.
About half of the three acres of mulch is burning, and because the pile is 10 to 15 feet deep in some areas, it’s difficult to fight. No structures are in danger.
The blaze has put up a column of smoke visible throughout much of western Ventura County. There’s no word on when the fire will be contained. The cause is still under investigation.
