Santa Barbara County will fight to retain some buildings once owned by a redevelopment agency, but which the state now wants sold.
The Santa Barbara County Redevelopment Agency owned the building used by the Isla Vista Neighborhood Clinic, on the 900 block of Embarcadero Del Mar in Isla Vista, as well as a neighboring church complex which has been proposed for use as a community center.
But, the state’s move to shut down redevelopment agencies two years ago put the property on a state list for disposal.
After community residents rallied to try to save the buildings, Santa Barbara County Supervisors directed staff to come up with long range management plans for the facilities.
County Supervisors approved the plans today, and the county will now seek approval from the State Department of Finance to retain the properties for community use.
