Posted on Sunday, October 13, 2013 3:11pm

Police say they’ve arrested a man on arson, and attempted murder charges for a weekend fire which injured seven people, and heavily damaged a Central Coast hotel.

The Town Center Hotel, on the 200 Block of North Broadway in Santa Maria, was hit by a blaze just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police and firefighters arrived to find flames, and smoke pouring from the residential hotel.

Several people had to be rescued.

Seven were taken to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation, but fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

Police say they had evidence leading them to Amos Andrews of Santa Maria.  He was spotted by an off duty police officer Saturday night, leading to his arrest.  Investigators aren’t taking about possible motivations for the incident.

More than 160 people lived in the hotel which suffered an estimated $1.4 million dollars in damage.

Dozens of them spent the weekend in temporary shelters.
