Man Sentenced To Six Years In Prison For Fraudulently Claiming Ownership Of Oxnard Apartments

Posted on Friday, October 11, 2013 4:32pm

A San Fernando Valley man received a six year prison sentence today for fraudulently claiming ownership of an Oxnard apartment complex, and collecting rent from tenants.

Ventura County prosecutors say Laureano Labasay filed false documents with the county to transfer the complex into his name, and then told tenants to pay him rent directly.  Oxnard Police, and investigators with the DA’s Real Estate Fraud unit say even after the Chatsworth man was arrested for fraud in 2011, he filed more paperwork claiming ownership of the apartments.

He was convicted of three counts of recording a false document, and one count of forgery.
