Ventura Firefighters Shop Fire Which Threatens Motel

Ventura firefighters had a busy Saturday morning, battling two fires, including one which threatened a motel.

The first blaze was reported just before 10:30 a.m., on the 2300 block of Victoria Avene.  Firefighters say strong wind pushed power lines into a tree, causing some palm trees to catch on fire, and threatening the Victoria Motel.  The motel was evacuated, but firefighters contained the blaze before it could cause serious damage.

Then, Ventura firefighters say about an hour later, wind knocked down some power lines on Sioux Avenue, and started several spot fires.  The blaze threatened some  homes, but firefighters were again stop the flames before they could cause serious damage.
