Santa Barbara City Council To Consider Disposable Bag Ban

Posted on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 12:16am

The City of Santa Barbara is looking at joining Carpinteria, Ojai, Calabasas, and some other communities around the state in banning single use plastic bags.

The City Council today will consider certifying an environmental impact report needed to set the stage for a bag ban ordinance.

The proposal calls for banning the plastic bags, and making recyclable paper bags available for ten cents each.  if adopted, the change would be effective for larger stores six months after passage, and smaller stores would have to implement it a year after its final approval.
