Plane Makes Emergency Landing On 101 Freeway

Posted on Monday, September 30, 2013 12:32am

A section of Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County doubled as an airport runway over the weekend.

A light plane being flown from Santa Maria to Santa Barbara by a student pilot apparently ran out of gas, and touched down on the southbound 101 near Gaviota.

No one was injured in the 4:30 p.m. Friday landing.  About two hours later, after the plane was refueled, a section of the 101 was briefly closed, and the plane took off, and was flown safely back to Santa Barbara Airport.
