Former Ventura County Social Services Worker Accused Of Embezzling More Than $240,000

Posted on Monday, September 30, 2013 11:32am

A former Ventura County social services worker has been charged with stealing more than $240,000 in food stamp cards, and cash benefits.

Ventura County prosecutors say Ana Maria Castro worked for the county’s Human Services Agency for a decade, before resigning last December.  She managed welfare cases, which gave her access to food stamps, and cash benefits.

The 37 year old Oxnard woman is charged with misappropriation of public funds, embezzlement of public funds, public benefits fraud, and filing false or forged documents.

Two of her relatives were also arrested, on charges they used food stamp cards not issued to them.
