A more than 200 foot long commercial rocket roared into space from the Central Coast, successfully putting a small payload into orbit.
The commercial space company SpaceX made its first launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base yesterday morning, with its Falcon 9 rocket lifting a small Canadian satellite into space.
Space X had already successful launched a series of Falcon rockets from the East Coast, but this was its first West Coast launch.
The company has used its rocket to get supplies to the International Space Station. It’s hoping that it will eventually be able to reuse parts of the rocket, and also to use a version of the rocket to get astronauts into orbit.
