Federal Grant Could Open Door For New Airline Service To Ventura County

Posted on Friday, September 27, 2013 4:15pm

A federal grant announced today may set the stage for the return of commercial airline service to Ventura County.

The U.S. Department of Transportation will give $500,000 to Ventura County, and specifically Oxnard Airport for new service.

The Small Community Air Service Development grant can be used to make revenue guarantees, and to help with marketing for an airline to offer service between Oxnard, and a top 10 market like San Francisco, Phoenix, or Las Vegas.

Allegiant Airlines, which serves a number of smaller West Coast cities, provided a letter of support for the grant, and officials say they will consider providing the new service.
