Death Penalty Recommended For Man Convicted Of Killing Ventura County Businessman

A jury is recommending that a man convicted of ambushing, and murdering a Ventura County businessman get the death penalty.

Jeffrey Aguilar was found guilty of first degree murder in the August. 2008 slaying of Gurmohinder Singh.

The 55 year old businessman shot and killed during a robbery as he left an Oxnard bank.

During the penalty phase of the trial, Aguilar’s relatives pleaded with the jury to give him life in prison without the possibility of parole, instead of the death penalty.

The jury’s decision is only a recommendation.

A judge will have the final say in the sentencing of the 27 year old man.

Maria Lissette Bucio, who is related to Aguilar, was convicted of masterminding the crime, and is serving a 25 years to life sentence for her role in the crime.
