Air Force Planning Second ICBM Test In Less Than A Week From Central Coast

Posted on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 10:25am

The Air Force has announced plans for its second intercontinental missile test in less than a week from the Central Coast.

A Minuteman III launch is planned for Vandenberg Air Force Base during a launch window which extends from 3:01 a.m., until 9:01 a.m. tomorrow.  A similar ICBM was successfully test launched from the base over the weekend.

Air Force officials say with launch teams on hand from the 90th Missile Wing based at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming, and the 91st Missile Wing from Minot Air Force base in North Dakota, it was a more efficient use of resources to do two launches in a week.

The data used from the launches is used to insure that the military’s ICBM program is at peak readiness.
