A private high school in Ventura County is being honored as one of the best schools in the nation.
La Reina High School in Thousand Oaks has been named as one of the 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education. It was the only school in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties to receive Blue Ribbon honors this year, and one of only 15 schools in the state receiving the honor.
High schools receiving the award have a student body which performs in the top 15% in the nation in the reading, and math sections of the SAT, and do well on a survey which looks at the school’s accomplishments, and community involvement.
La Reina representatives will officially receive the award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November. The school is a nearly four decade old Catholic college preparatory school for young women.
