Santa Barbara County fire investigators today released new details about a brush fire which caused a scare last week.
The 20 acre blaze off of Tepusquet Canyon Road, near Sisquoc last Thursday was started by a tractor. Santa Barbara County Fire Department Captain David Sadecki says they took possession of the rental tractor for inspection, and with the help of an expert, determined it wasn’t properly equipped with a spark arrestor.
The investigator say had the tractor been equipped properly, it wouldn’t have ignited the blaze as it was being used at a vineyard.
The fire burned some rugged hillside land, making it difficult to control. At one point, about 200 firefighters fought the blaze, but they were able fully contain it the day after it started. No structures were damaged, but one firefighter suffered a minor injury.
