There’s a major consolidation of television station underway in the Tri-Counties.
The owners of Santa Barbara based KEYT, the ABC affiliate for the region, announced they reached a deal to buy KKFX, the Fox affiliate for Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties.
They’ve also reached a deal with Cowles California Media the owner of KKFX, to have what’s known as a shared services agreement with KCOY, the CBS station in the market.
The deal includes providing local news program.
So, the deal means that KEYT will be providing local news for its new Fox station, and potentially for the local CBS station.
KEYT owner News Press & Gazette also bought the CBS, and Spanish language Telemundo affiliates from Cowles in the Monterey/Salinas television market.
There’s no word on the price of the deal. It’s still subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission.
