San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the discovery of an abandoned boat apparently being used for smuggling.

The ponga boat was spotted by a surfer early this morning on the beach near the San Simeon Campground.

No one was found with the boat, but a bale of marijuana was found onboard.

Authorities think the board came onshore late last night, or early this morning.

The boats have been used with increasing frequency to smuggle both drugs, and people from Mexico into the United States, and have been turning up along the Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo County coastlines.
