More details are being released about the officer involved fatal shooting of a Conejo Valley man in Port Hueneme.

Officers responding to reports of a traffic accident on the 500 block of Surfside Drive early Friday morning encountered Michael DeLuca.

Department officials say the 53 year old Thousand Oaks man refused to follow the orders of officers, and say he told them he had a gun.

Police say the officers at first deployed a Taser to try to control DeLuca, and then opened fire, killing DeLuca.

The officers have been placed on paid leave, as is standard practice in incidents of this type, while full investigators are conducted.
