An Army soldier from Santa Barbara County who was killed in Afghanistan has made his final trip home.
The remains of Kenneth Clifford Alvarez arrived in Santa Maria yesterday, with ceremonies at Santa Maria Airport.
Hundreds of people were on hand at the airport, and lined streets for a motorcade to a funeral home.
The 23 year old Army specialist died August 23rd, along with another soldier from the 40th Mobile Augmentation Company, Second Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade.
The military didn’t release details of what occurred, but said they were the victims of an improvised explosive device.
Alvarez was based in White Sands, New Mexico.
Two memorial events will take place today, with funeral services planned for Thursday.
