A high school in Ventura County was placed on lockdown today, after a traffic accident spilled hundreds of gallons of dangerous acid near the campus.
A truck lost its load of hydrochloric acid, just before noon today on the 500 block of First Street in Fillmore. An estimated 200 gallons of the chemical spilled.
Fillmore High School restricted access to part of the campus while a hazmat crew was working to contain, and clean up the spill. It was contained in about 90 minutes.
The truck was taking a shipment of the chemical to Fillmore’s community pool. No one was hurt.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
