Rocket Launch With Secret Payload Set For Central Coast Tomorrow

Posted on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 5:08pm

If the weather cooperates, a rocket carrying a top secret military payload will lift off from the Central Coast tomorrow.

A Delta Four rocket is set to lift off from Vandenberg Air Force Base just before 11 tomorrow morning.

The payload is reported to be a satellite for the National Reconnaissance Office.

The launch team is concerned about the potential for cloud cover which could force a delay in the launch.

The forecast calls for a 30% chance of clouds.

Jalama Beach will be closed to the public starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow, as a precaution during the launch window.

The beach closure is set for 8 a.m. until noon.
