Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies say they’ve arrested a teenage boy they say they caught in the process of burglarizing, and setting fire to a Moorpark school.
An alarm alerted deputies to the break-in at Mesa Verde Middle School, on the 14000 block of Peach Hill Road just before one a.m. yesterday. The say they spotted evidence of a break in to the administration building, and as they started to investigate, a 17 year old boy came out of a door, and was detained.
They then entered the office, and spotted a small fire. The deputies put it out with fire extinguishers. Deputies searched the teen, and say they found evidence linking him to the school burglary, and fire. He was arrested on arson, and burglary charges.
The damage to the school was minor, and didn’t disrupt classes.
