Gang Member Enters Guilty Plea To Stabbing Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputy At Santa Maria Courthouse

Posted on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 3:13pm

A gang member already behind bars pled guilty to trying to kill a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department deputy.

In October of 2011, Lorenzo Padilla used a shank he made in jail to attack the deputy in a jail holding facility at the Santa Maria Courthouse.

Padilla was already serving a 59 years to life sentence for three other attempted murder convictions when he committed the attack.

As a result of the deal, the 28 year old man had another 22 years added to his time behind bars.

The deputy survived the attack.
