The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office says its filed assault charges against two deputies who work at the county’s main jail.
In a written statement, prosecutors say the assault by a public officer charges stem from an alleged assault against an inmate at the jail.
The DA’s office identified the deputies as Robert Kirsch, and Christopher Johnson.
Sheriff Bill Brown released a statement saying that upon hearing about the allegations of wrongdoing in June, the department started an investigation, and shared its findings with the DA’s office.
In the statement, the Sheriff says the allegations do not reflect the conduct, and actions of the vast majority of people in the department.
The two deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending resolution of the charges.
Neither the DA’s office, or the Sheriff’s Department released details of the specifics behind the charges.
